Shop The Prayer at Valley Forge
As a Native American girl peeks from her lodge door with admiration at the young brave atop his sturdy appaloosa horse, this painting offers an intimate view of life in the days when Indians were at home with nature. As is true with all Friberg paintings, every inch of canvas from foreground to background is heavily laden with rich and authentically detailed information – from the high-pommelled woman’s saddle embellished with beadwork to the orderly placement of lodge pole tepees with smoke holes facing away from the prevailing winds. Yet it is Friberg’s love and respect for native culture that capture the power, reality, and fullness of life in an Indian camp in the days when time was counted by moons and snows.
